What qualities make a professional video camera? I'm looking at things such as lenses available audio options of the camera, video capture size, etc. would also be useful sources.
Depending on your needs and budget. Basic Requirements: least amount of compression applied before writing to storage media (usually DV / HDV, HDCAM / DVCAM or DVCPRO HD). Lens filter diameter of 70 mm or larger. Imaging chips 1 / 3 "or larger. XLR audio connectors. Any camcorder that has these are basic things that most other pro-quality external manual controls outside the camera, too. Add to a higher resolution ( "ultra high definition "as the Red or scarlet or Silicon Imaging) and is good to go. Do not forget: Good microphones (shotgun, stereo, wireless lav) good stabilizing devices (fluid head tripod, camera crane, SteadyCam / Glidecam vest VariCam system and articulated arm, dolly track, etc.) lighting (in the camera and not), monitors, cases, lenses, filters and more … and we have not reached the production of items such as makeup, props, costumes … Then there is the grab and all the work they do and the equipment they bring and how to use and configure, and editing software and hardware … there is much more …
